(Brochure)

Strategies for Justice offers an advanced training for experienced child abuse professionals and multi-disciplinary teams in an environment that reinforces the importance of collaboration. Strategies for Justice explores institutional barriers to the protection of children and offers strategies for reshaping our institutional responses to be truly victim centered and multidisciplinary. Recognizing the inadequacy of our responses to cases involving adolescent victims of abuse and the potential for these children (often runaway/throwaway/homeless youths) to become victims, we have created an agenda that emphasizes the importance of protecting adolescent victims, both male and female. A full day of training is dedicated to improving the institutional responses to child victims of prostitution/human trafficking.

Topics include:

  • Recent Research Affecting Child Abuse Investigations & Prosecutions
  • Child Advocacy Centers & Multidisciplinary Teams: Panel Presentation
  • Forensic Interviews for Criminal Purposes Only? How About Some Other Uses
  • Multi-Disciplinary Teams in Today’s Economy
  • Cross-Screening for Intimate Partner Violence
  • Strategies for Interviewing Children Exposed to Intimate Partner Violence
  • Accomplice Liability
  • Juvenile Sex Offenders & SORNA
  • The Link between Child Abuse, Intimate Partner Violence & Animal Abuse
  • Therapy Animals Supporting Kids
  • Serial Child Torture & Its Roots in Neglect
  • Burns
  • Drowning, Hypothermia & Hyperthermia
  • Confessions
  • Crawford v. Washington, Is It Testimonial?
  • Sexomnia As a Defense
  • Digital Evidence & Forensic Interviews
  • Vicarious Trauma

Who should apply:

This course is specifically designed for the experienced child abuse professionals and multi-disciplinary teams. We encourage child advocacy centers to bring their MDT partners for this week-long strategy session.
