Since 1993, F.A.I.T.H. has worked to advocate for, empower, and protect individuals and families impacted by abuse and violence across Northeast Georgia.
We provide free and confidential services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and human trafficking. Through advocacy, shelter, counseling, forensic services, housing support, and community resources, we help people move toward safety, stability, and whole healing.

Our History: A Timeline of Hope & Growth

What began as a community effort to address domestic violence in Rabun County has grown into an organization dedicated to serving survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and human trafficking. Since its founding, F.A.I.T.H. has continued to expand its programs, facilities, and services to meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve.

1993

  • A community-wide needs assessment identified the need for a domestic violence program in Rabun County.

1994

  • The organization established its first Board of Directors, obtained nonprofit status, and incorporated in Georgia. During its first year of operation, a 24-hour crisis hotline was launched, the first Executive Director was hired, services for survivors of domestic violence began, and the organization received its first Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funding.

1995

  • The first F.A.I.T.H. thrift store opened in Dillard, Georgia, providing an additional source of support for the organization’s mission.

1996

  • Proceeds from Rhapsody in Rabun helped fund the renovation of a building that would become the organization’s first domestic violence shelter. The thrift store also relocated to downtown Clayton.

1997

  • The original Domestic Violence Shelter opened in January, providing a safe place for survivors and their children. Additional state funding supported the expansion of services, including sexual assault prevention programs in Rabun and Stephens counties.

1998

  • State and federal funding helped strengthen shelter operations, while a new Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) contract expanded sexual assault services to Rabun, Stephens, and Towns counties. The first annual Sweetheart Ball was held, and thrift store operations expanded to five days a week.

1999

  • Full state shelter certification was achieved, along with additional funding through Georgia’s Family Violence Program. Increased staffing allowed for 24-hour, on-site coverage at the Domestic Violence Shelter.

2000

  • Initial funding was received to begin establishing a Child Advocacy Center in Stephens County, serving children and families in Rabun, Stephens, and Habersham counties.

2002

  • A generous anonymous donation of $75,000 made it possible to establish the Power House Child Advocacy and Sexual Assault Center, which was officially dedicated on June 2, 2002.

2006

  • A dedicated therapy wing was added to the Power House Child Advocacy and Sexual Assault Center, expanding the space available for counseling and healing services.

2008

  • A new Domestic Violence Shelter was purchased and renovated to better meet the needs of survivors and their families.

2012

  • A dedicated furniture location opened in downtown Clayton as part of the thrift store operations. That same year, F.A.I.T.H. became the first organization in Georgia to reach the 15% community tipping point for adults trained in Darkness to Light’s 5 Steps to Protecting Our Children child sexual abuse prevention program.

2015

  • A major expansion and renovation of the Power House Child Advocacy and Sexual Assault Center was completed, enhancing the facility and its ability to serve children and survivors of sexual assault.

2018

  • The annual Sweetheart Ball celebrated its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of community support for F.A.I.T.H.’s mission.

2019

  • The organization received its first Rapid Re-Housing funding, expanding services to help survivors secure safe, stable housing and work toward long-term independence.

2023

  • A generous donation made it possible to establish a kennel, later named Ken’s Kennel, allowing survivors to seek safety without having to leave their pets behind.

2024

  • The organization’s mission statement was updated to formally include human trafficking, reflecting an expanded commitment to serving survivors of violence and exploitation.

2026

  • The capital campaign for the new F.A.I.T.H. Power House and Healing Barn was successfully completed, marking a significant step toward expanding services and creating new opportunities for healing and recovery.
